Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, lived in the region of present-day Nepal and northern India around the 5th century BC. According to tradition, he left a life of comfort to seek an end to suffering and reached awakening while meditating beneath a bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya. He spent the rest of his life teaching a path of wisdom, ethical conduct, and meditation that still guides millions today.

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become” is a popular modern line often attributed to the Buddha. The exact words aren’t found in the early texts, but the idea echoes the opening verse of the Dhammapada: mind comes before all things. Our thoughts shape our actions, and our actions shape our lives. Tending the mind with patience and honesty is the quiet work that everything else rests on.
