Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) was born in Vinci, Tuscany, and became the model of the Renaissance mind. He painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, and he filled thousands of notebook pages with studies of anatomy, flight, water, and machines. His Vitruvian Man, drawn around 1490, maps the proportions of the human body described by the Roman architect Vitruvius.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” is a line long attributed to him, though no one has found it in his writings. It still fits the way he worked: study something relentlessly until you understand it well enough to strip it to its essence. In business, training, or thinking, anyone can add more. The real skill is cutting what doesn’t matter until only what works remains.
